Identify and explain the main political, economic and social factors that are likely to affect Thomas Cook plc. Political factors that may affect Thomas Cook plc may include civil unrest for example in Syria. This may affect Thomas Cook as their sales may decrease due to the lack of interest in visiting that country in turn giving low profits. Thomas Cook could be affected in the same way by the introduction of terrorist attacks, potentially facing a decrease in sales and even flights taking place. Another political factor that Thomas Cook may be affected by are health and safety regulations as they may have to situate capital into further health and safety precautions which could potentially lead to high expenses for the company.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Social factors consist of the potential increase in demand for package holidays where Thomas Cook may experience a large increase in sales due to their recognized position as a leading package holiday merchant. Evidently this would give higher profits, providing the opportunity for the company to grow if it desired to. Also if public att itudes on pollution were to arise and things such as pressure groups were to form then this could influence a large amount of people to not want to be involved with all factors sourcing pollution. Due to Thomas Cookââ¬â¢s significant contribution towards pollution through the emissions produced from their planes, this could mean that due to the influence of the attitudes the sales may decrease and so less profit is retained. Another factor of social influence on Thomas Cook may be demographic change. For example if a country were to experience a larger single status population, this may lower holiday sales for Thomas Cook disallowing them to reach high profit margins due to the norm of holidays being ââ¬Ëcoupleââ¬â¢ or ââ¬Ëfamilyââ¬â¢ event. Overall I think all factors mentioned would affect Thomas Cook plc but I believe that the strongest factor and the one that holds the biggest effect on Thomas Cook is the economic factor, a recession. A recession has the potential to determine whether a large amount of existing orShow MoreRelatedCsr Communication in the Pharma Industry35538 Words à |à 143 Pages2. Delilah Crespo Mr. McParland English 101 October 24, 2010 In the article ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m Happy with an Arranged Marriageâ⬠by Gitangeli Sapra it discusses her view of arranged marriages. Ms. We will write a custom essay sample on Blood Diamon or any similar topic only for you Order Now Gitangeli is for arranged marriage, she stated that people who get married for ââ¬Å"loveâ⬠has a 40% rate of divorce. She also states that arranged marriages have a lower rate of divorce for the fact that the couples do not want to start a wrath between their families. I disagree; I believe that families should not have the right to set up their children with who they think best suits their child. I personally would not prefer my parents to set me up with someone who they think is a great person, because I have different standards then they do. If parents were to choose who they want their child to marry then they will be involved in the coupleââ¬â¢s lives, therefore if the relationship is not working out the couple would be too scared to get a divorce because of what their family might do. Some countries make arranged marriage mandatory, and some people actually agree with it but others such as me do not. Fatma Uncon was a twenty year old female who was forced into an arranged marriage, which she did not want. Since she was forced she decided to commit suicide by shooting herself with her fatherââ¬â¢s handgun. Another female named Gulbahar Karokoyn was also forced into an arranged marriage, which she did not want. She was forced into marrying her uncleââ¬â¢s son, therefore she also committed suicide. These two young females committed suicide because they felt pressured and forced into something which they did not want. They felt that by ending their life they would finally be free. I asked one of my friend if she was for arranged marriage and she stated no, ââ¬Å"I want to fall in love with the person before I get married not my parents, they are not the oneââ¬â¢s who has to stay with this specific person their entire life so why should they choose who I marryâ⬠. I completely agree with her because it is true why should anyone tell me who I should marry. Altogether, as I stated before I do not think arranged marriage is a good idea. I believe that people should decide who they want to be with. Their parents should not force you to choose who you want to make your life long partner, because you will be the one who has to be with that person for life. Also arranged marriages might make people feel too trapped and that might cause them to do something to harm themselves or their partner. Therefore I believe the choice should be yours. Management Accounting System Design in Manufacturing Departments free essay sample
The model was tested by means of empirical data collected from a questionnaire addressed to 160 production managers. The response rate was 82. 5%. The ? ndings provide some support for the notion that organizations adapt their MAS design to the control requirements of the situation. Furthermore, the study o? ers some empirical support for the existence of suboptimal equi? nality. That is, in situations which lack of a single dominant imperative, several alternative, and functionally equivalent management control system (MCS) designs, may arise. O 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Introduction Since the mid-eighties, there has been a trend in manufacturing towards customization and novel approaches to organizing production, including JIT/TQM models of control (Schonberger, 1986; Womack, Jones, Roos, 1990). The pursuit of such strategies poses signi? cant challenges for the management since they typically imply intensi? ed interdependencies among functionally di? erentiated departments and new means of managing the work? ow (Bouwens Abernethy, 2000; Kalagnanam Lindsay, 1998). We will write a custom essay sample on Management Accounting System Design in Manufacturing Departments or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The multiple contingencies model stems from recognition that the demands placed on MAS design by multiple contingencies may con? ict (Fisher, 1995), i. e. , attempts to satisfy one demand may mean that other demands cannot be satis? ed. It is also explicitly assumed that the need for coordination and control can be met by several alternative, and equi? nal, management control system design strategies. The assumption is justi? ed by the long-held view that management control subsystems may not only complement each other but also substitute for each other (Fisher, 1995; Galbraith, 1973; Mintzberg, 1983). The remainder of the paper is structured as follows. The following two sections de? ne the constructs, develop the theoretical model, and conclude with a number of exploratory propositions. The process of data collection and data analysis is then detailed in the fourth section. The results of the study are presented and discussed in the ? fth and sixth sections, respectively. The last section contains concluding comments and some suggestions regarding future research. De? nition of constructs For a long time there has been an interest among scholars in documenting ? relationships between features of context in which the organization operates and its management control arrangements.

THREE FACES OF THE WRITER
THREE FACES OF THE WRITER I attended a conference recently where a short story instructor elaborated about the three sides of a writer. I like to call them faces. The concept he painted was not new to me, but I marveled at how it remained hidden in the back of my mind, an assumption, like it wasnt worth remembering. In reality, understanding our three faces is phenomenally important. Astounding, even. THE AUTHOR This personality is the source of all ideas. Here is where you contrive the plot and choose your characters. This side of you involves ingenuity. THE WRITER This face is the crafter. Here is the side of you that defines the words, matches nouns to verbs, carefully chooses adverbs (if any). This is the most easily taught of the three talents. You can be schooled on how to put words together correctly. THE STORYTELLER Here is the magic. This is what most people call voice. So many people can be authors and writers, but not everyone is a storyteller. This face isnt easily taught, since its almost an inherent trait. Its this side of you that can show and not tell, translating enthusiasm into words. Th storyteller isnt in all writers and authors. There may be words on paper, in order, written properly, with a beginning, middle and ending, but without the storytellers touch, the tale falls flat. How do you master all three? Read voraciously, watching for all three faces of the writer you read. Make yourself learn the writer side, grasping the word building until its second nature. Listen to storytellers. Close your eyes and hear audiobooks, movies, and plays. Absorb the wordplay, recognizing how the writer avoids telling. Then try to be uninhibited in your writing. Dont worry about what your mother will think about the sex in Chapter 14. Forget about how your cousins may misinterpret the twist in Chapter 23. Sling all the crap on the page and dare to be alive. Story creation is a careful balance of knowing the rules, thinking creativity, and then daring to explode onto the page without concern for the ramifications.

Is Socrates Form of the Good Correct Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Is Socrates Form of the Good Correct - Essay Example One of these entities is goodness or good, which is considered to be one of the causes of many of the things that are experienced daily in the visible realm. Something is considered to have a certain level of goodness because it participates in the Form of Good. According to Plato, Forms are the only things that can be known about, that is, they are the only things that can be considered to be objects of knowledge (Welton 20). In other words the form of the good, according to Plato, is ultimately to be treated as the object of knowledge, even though it is not really knowledge itself. Socrates, through Plato, is convinced that just gains its usefulness through the Good. I believe that Socrates is right in philosophizing that from Good emanates everything else, including knowledge and justice. Form of the Good Plato does not specifically say what the form of good is, but he does say that the knowledge of the form of the good is the most important or the highest knowledge that philosoph er kings should aspire. He says ââ¬Å"What gives truth to the things known and the power to know to the knower is the Form of the Good, and though it is the cause of knowledge and truth, it is also an object of knowledgeâ⬠(Plato and Jowett 46). ... All the prisoners get to see are shadows which are visibly moving on the wall. These shadows are not of people, but of statues being moved from above them but the prisoners cannot see this. They think that the shadows they see moving on the walls in front of them are real people, they cannot conceive a better reality in their present state. Socrates likens these prisoners with people who live thinking that the reality is composed of the fantasies they hear about in stories (Welton 47). Once the prisoners are released it is then they realize that what they thought were real people were actually lifeless statues (Anna 85). However, they would still think that the statues are real, just like a person who is used to the sounds and sights of the world would think that there was nothing more real than their own experiences. If the prisoners wander out into the open world, they might at first be blinded by the sunââ¬â¢s light, but with time, they come to the realization that there are ot her things and objects in the world. They will then think that these objects are real, just like a person who finally gets the knowledge of the Forms that comprise everyday existence. In conclusion the prisoners will come to look at the sun and realize that it is the source of the light that is making it possible for them to see all the objects that they are seeing; it is the source of all life and all light. According to Socrates, the Form of the Good is therefore like the sun; it is the source of everything found in the intelligible world (91). Socrates asks his students and friends to visualize a line that is halved in two and four. According to Socrates, the upper part of the halved line

International Relations Theory and Global Economy Essay
International Relations Theory and Global Economy - Essay Example International Relations Theory and Global Economy Global economy is the combination of all the economies of the worldââ¬â¢s countries. The valuation of the world economy can be arrived at by representing it in a certain currency like the US dollars. Each country experiences a trade cycle where the rate of growth of expenditure, incomes and production changes over a period of time. The duration and effects of these cycles are dynamic simply because the structure of the economy is developing. This may be caused by theoretical relationships between different variables, for example, unemployment and inflation which might have changed. This poses many challenges to policy makers as they try to control the economy and meet their objectives. Taking the economic growth of a country, for example the U.K., and analyzing how it has been for the past years, it is possible to know that the country has experienced many shortcomings to date. Notably, the UK has experienced recession and boom periods in the process of its economic development. J ust to highlight some key areas contributing to the growth of the U.K economy, one is strong consumption. Consumer spending has contributed positively and has had positive effects to the economy like, absorbing some of the weaknesses of the export and investment sectors. However, this has not come so easily because it has its limitations, which include increased debts and increase in rentals. Low investment in capital equipment has also led to growth in the economy as some of these major investments were left to the private sector to cover.3. Growth of the economy globally has main stages like the economic boom. A boom is a situation that occurs when gross domestic product grows faster than the trend growth rate. At this period, aggregate demand is high, and businesses increase production and employment. Due to high demand, prices may also increase which translates to cost push and inflation in demand. Demand for imports increases because of high marginal propensity of importation a mong customers. Revenues from tax increase as more people are in employment and earning, hence, they spend more money. In addition, company realizes high profits as production increases, thus, increasing sales due to high demand in turn leading to high investment. Labor is used exhaustively at minimal costs, that is, no extra labor is needed. The other economic cycle is the economic recession which is a decrease in national output4. Every aspect of the economy is restrained to its maximum. This is a period where the economy is operating below its breakeven point. As the negative part of the economy, it can lead to increased unemployment, low income per head, international insecurity as many become jobless increased bad debts and the end result of all this is conflicts. The table below gives an illustration of the economic growth of the UK and inflation rate in the country for the past few years; Resource: http://www.economicshelp.org/images/macro-graphs/econ-growth-inflation-dec-201 1png.jpg Further still, global economy has attracted the centre stage in international politics of late. Politicians cannot do without bringing the issue of economic growth and fall to the world as they try to appeal to the world to consider them in election to top seats. They lay down structured policies on how they are going to deal with the monster
